Listing Description

North Georgia Network Cooperative is providing state-of-the-art, low-latency digital optical network solutions to technology‐reliant businesses and organizations with access to speeds as fast as those in the largest, busiest cities in the world.

The network’s fully redundant ring design provides a level of reliability unprecedented in this part of rural Georgia.

Fiber optics is a new wave of broadband technology. The NGN fiber optic network:

  • Has a core transport system made up of 260 miles of fiber
  • Contains hundreds of additional connections to extend service to businesses and homes
  • Delivers affordable gigabit broadband speeds and interconnection points
  • Uses light waves instead of electricity to transmit data more efficiently
  • Pushes more data through a larger digital pipe
  • Encourages service providers to interconnect with the network and build out their own fiber‐optic services to their own customers, including community institutions like public schools, universities, hospitals and government facilities

Broadband Solutions for Rural Georgians

The people of rural Georgia have the knowledge, drive and innovative spirit to rival any urban area, yet they are continually underserved by major telecommunications companies. Ignored due to geographical isolation and sparse populations, North Georgia communities have fewer connectivity options. These citizens often pay more than urban residents for slower, less reliable Internet service.
NGN’s fiber optic network is changing that.

Affordable, fast broadband service provides solutions to these daily struggles by connecting the people of North Georgia to the global marketplace of knowledge, resources, and communication.

Educators and Students

Gigabit-speed connectivity is already changing education in North Georgia. Through the Education Exchange program, NGN is empowering schools to use the network to share resources, expand learning opportunities, and improve communications.

Doctors and Patients

Geographical isolation should never keep a patient from receiving quality medical treatment. Telemedicine connects big-city medical resources to anywhere in the world, including North Georgia.

Civic Leaders and Citizens

Fiber networks are not only fast but also incredibly secure. Local governments connected to fiber have the opportunity to innovate in ways that make a difference in the daily lives of North Georgians.

Businesses and Customers

Even small businesses require technology to compete in the global economy. NGN can support even the most bandwidth-hungry e-commerce applications. Fiber networks allow businesses to easily connect to customers down the road or across the country.

Jobs and Employees

Fiber connectivity makes our region more attractive to both businesses and employees. A fiber-connected rural Georgia creates jobs for employees who want to work fast but live slow.

Internet Service Providers and Residents

Technology cannot be held hostage. Through NGN, other ISPs can connect to the 1,100-mile network and extend super-fast Internet service to their customers’ homes.

A Network for a New Generation

The North Georgia Network Cooperative (NGN) is a regional fiber optic system with over 1,000 miles of fiber optic infrastructure.

NGN is unlike most telecommunications corporations. We are a corporation of cooperatives, owned by its members: Habersham Electric Membership Corporation (HEMC), Blue Ridge Mountain Electrical Membership Corporation (BRMEMC) and Georgia Communications Cooperative dba NGN Connect™. This cooperative is bound by the common vision of a more prosperous future for rural North Georgia. NGN and its members focus on providing our region with a fiber optic network that is fast, reliable and affordable.
